I’m a firm believer that the smallest of details can make the biggest impact, and it’s this mantra that I think of when I pull a casual outfit from my wardrobe. The main reason I prefer a casual outfit is because I prioritise comfort over style, but it does come with its downfall. Although I love a casual outfit, I sometimes get the feeling that I’m not completely put together. This is where those small details come in, as I’ve put together five simple ways to enhance a casual outfit. These are the style rules I implement to ensure I look and feel at my best.
Your Greatest Accessory
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – your hair is your greatest accessory, as it’s something you wear each and everyday. The difference I feel when my hair is freshly washed and styled is unbelievable. I could be wearing just joggers and a jumper and as long as my hair is looking great, I feel completely put together. Plus, there’s nothing better than that freshly washed feeling is there?
A Little Shade
One way to go from 0% to 100% is with a pair of shades. Plus, they save me having to do my make-up, which is ideal when I’m going casual. Like I said above my hair makes such a difference, but I can pick and choose when I wear my make-up. These days I prefer the make-up makeunder anyways, so I find sunglasses enhance my minimal make-up and they just give my look a cooler edge.
Total BS (Bags&Shoes)
When I was younger I was told that no one looks at your bag, or shoes, which I quickly learnt was a whole of rubbish. I’ve come to discover that a bag, or a pair of shoes, can be the focal point of any outfit. In fact, I’ve put outfits together based on what shoes, or bag I want to wear. Whether they’re designer, or introduce a pop of colour, bags and shoes are a brilliant way to enhance a casual outfit.
Forget Me Not
The one accessory I always forget to wear is jewellery and I don’t know why because I find these small details not only finish off an outfit perfectly, but are a great way to layer up and give texture to a look. I’m not a huge fan of costume jewellery, but I do love wearing key pieces such as rings, a necklace and my new favourite, a watch.
Tie It All Together
Ever since my style makeover with Helenlee I’ve learnt that it’s important to know your body shape and how to enhance your figure. With every outfit – whether it’s casual, smart, glam – I tie in my waist. You’ll probably see this belt in every single photo I put on my Instagram, but ensuring that my casual outfit is flattering not only enhances – and completely transforms – the look, but also makes me feel amazing too.
