Tammy Girl, Etam, Quiz, MK One, Select and Internacionale were just some of the brands I loved when I first discovered fashion as a teenage girl. Countless memories come flooding back of my friends and I getting the bus to the Bridges, in Sunderland, just so we could spend our pocket money on the latest clothing, or ‘it’ pieces. Good times. But, of course, times change and so do shopping habits. I haven’t tried any of these brands for years (probably because the majority of these brands are no longer in business), but I did try one recently and I was actually pleasantly surprised.
The brand I’m talking about is Select. A few weeks ago I accidently ended up trying on one of its skirts (my mam had placed a huge online order and unfortunately this skirt didn’t fit her, so she gave it to me) and I instantly fell in love with it. It fits like a dream, it’s very Chanel-esque and for £10 the quality is very decent. I mean, I’m not hundred percent sure on the lining, but for that price I’m not going to complain.
I didn’t know it was Select, until after I’d tried it on and I was so impressed. It’s been years since I wore Select, I’m talking maybe 10 years. In fact I remember the last thing I bought from there, which was a black, satin short and blazer combo with a neon pink vest, which I paired with matching neon leg warmers and black pumps. I know what you’re thinking, but it was all the rage back then.
Even though they have a huge store in the Bridges I’ve never thought about shopping in there. If I’ve being honest I thought I grew out of the brand, but after trying this skirt I think I’ve rediscovered my love for Select fashion and I’m definitely interested in trying more of its pieces now I’m in my late twenties. Plus, its pieces are super affordable too.
Is there a brand you’ve rediscovered? What fashion brands did you grow up with?
