Last month I underwent a style makeover with the super talented Helenlee and I can honestly say it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. Learning about my style code, colour chart, body shape and style personality has completely changed the relationship I have with my clothes. During my style makeover I learnt a lot about the clothes I was wearing and the majority of them did nothing for me. They didn’t complement my complexion, they didn’t enhance my figure and they did nothing for my confidence. So, they had to go. In fact, after clearing out my wardrobe I was left with a handful of tops, one jumper, two pairs of jeans and two jackets. My wardrobe was looking pretty bare. Since I was in desperate need of some new clothes, I thought I would take what I’ve learnt and put it into practice and hit the high street. Before I knew my style code, shopping for me wasn’t a fun. I actually found the experience very stressful. I would enter a shop and just see a sea of clothes with no idea of what I was searching for, or what suited me. This usually resulted in me having a meltdown in the changing rooms, where I would leave in a fowl mood and hating on my body because nothing looked right. This time around I was pretty excited to go shopping, as I knew exactly what I wanted and what I was searching for. It was a huge success too, as instead of leaving in tears, I left with my arms filled with shopping bags! I love a good pair of skinny jeans, but finding the perfect pair can be a bit of a nightmare. After numerous recommendations I picked up this Harper High Waisted Jeans from River Island. Normally I would opt for mid-rise, but Helenlee told me that I have a very small waist and that wearing high waisted jeans will only enhance that, and of course she was right. I feel like this style not only flatters my shape, but fits my body so much better. I felt like I went from frumpy to fit with just a little extra fabric – I felt like a new woman. I topped the jeans off with that Gucci dupe belt to elevate my shape further. The top is in fact a bodysuit and I absolutely love it. The moment I saw it I was like, “it ticks my colour chart and it ticks the right shape for me.” V-necks cut through the middle of my shoulders, drawing the eyes down to my waist. This flatters my chest and enhances my body shape. I love that this bodysuit is stylish, but so comfortable too. When it comes to accessorising I can mix it up with silver, gold and rose gold jewellery, but the last two are the colours I should focus on. At the moment I love wearing statement rings, and I absolutely love this Amethyst ring from The Diamond Store. I love the combination of purple and gold, and think it’s the perfect colour combination for this time of year. I’m usually not a pink kind of girl, but I really like this Pink Sapphire rose gold heart ring too – it’s super pretty. In terms of silver, I really like this leaf motif ring. It’s simple, but elegant.
Can you believe that none of the jackets in my wardrobe suited me? I’m actually still searching for a new jacket, but in the meantime I’m using this old mac from H&M. I love the softness and warmth of the colour, but I also love that I can use the belt to, again, enhance my waist. This style of jacket comes back every single year, so I feel like I can definitely get my wear out of it this A/W. When it comes to bags and shoes Helenlee told me that my new best friend is tan. To be honest I have LOADS of tan boots and bags, but they never see the light of day because I automatically go for black. I’m really enjoying giving old items a new lease of life by mixing them up with new pieces instead of leaving them collecting dust in a cupboard.
I absolutely love having a style code, it’s not only made shopping so much easier, but it’s now enjoyable too. I can’t wait for my birthday to arrive (it’s October 24th) as I’m asking for money and vouchers so I can buy even more clothes!
