I suffer terribly with ingrown hairs. There I said it. It’s something I’ve been extremely embarrassed about and why I’ve yet to share my laser hair journey with you all. It’s only now that I’m almost rid of them, including the scars, that I have the confidence to speak up about it and talk about the process I’ve been through and the products I’ve used and are still using.
I didn’t always suffer with ingrown hairs. This problem was a result of waxing religiously – every three weeks – over the course of two years. I know everyone’s hair and skin is different, but it didn’t matter how much I exfoliated in between waxes, the ingrown hairs would always come through, and during this time they’ve left terrible scars on my skin.
The combination of ingrown hairs and the scars they left behind really affected my confidence, so much so, that I always covered up. This year I decided I had to do something about it and four months on I’m overwhelmed with the results. I’ve gone from skin covered with lumps, bumps and scars to skin that’s soft, smooth and only has a few visible scars left.
These results have come about from a process of using fantastic products alongside technology. While my laser hair removal sessions have thinned the hair – in some areas removed it completely – the products I’ve used along the way have kept the ingrown hairs away and inturn my scars have slowly healed.
The product I’ve been using in between sessions is the Skin Doctors Ingrow Go. This is a high performance lotion that helps treat and prevent ingrown hairs through using a combination of active ingredients and natural extracts to exfoliate skin prone to ingrown hairs, razor bumps and razor burns, resulting in smooth, bump-free skin.
I never use to see results from exfoliating when I was waxing, but the Glycolic Acid in this lotion is a mild exfoliant that removes dry skin cells and reduces redness, while the Isopropyl Alcohol’s antibacterial properties clear out infected pores and the Acetylsalicylic Acid is an anti-inflammatory that reduces swelling associated with ingrown hairs.
I’ve been using this several days prior to shaving, or my laser hair session, and on any random ingrown hairs that do pop through. A random hair is very rare for me now, but if they do come through I can now get rid of it quickly without scarring. I simply apply a few drops of the product onto a cotton bud and apply it over the affected area. It does tingle slightly, but it’s not anything that causes any concern. When I do use it, I use it before I have a shower. So, I’ll leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash it off. I have left it on overnight before and it works the same for me.
I’m loving this process I’m on right now and I just wish I did something about this sooner and started using products like this sooner. The difference it’s made to my hair and skin, and more importantly, my confidence is unreal. This product is available via Skin Doctors and Amazon.
