This S/S18 I set myself some style commandments and I’m quite proud to say that – a part from the odd jean day – the majority of this season I followed them. When it comes to clothing I’m trying my best to break my bad habits because I’m SO guilty of wearing the same old thing ALL of the time. I feel like this summer I did just that; I ditched my usual wardrobe and experimented with fashion, and you know what? I loved it! I loved it so much that in a bid to push my style boundaries even further, I’m trying out new clothing and accessories items…
I’m constantly in jeans, but this season I’ve really enjoyed ditching the denim in exchange for dresses. I’ve realised thought that I’ve been drawn to a certain style of dress – mainly A-line – so I’ve been trying extra hard to venture away from this and try something new. Now, I’ve always stayed away from smock style dresses because I thought they made me look fat. Silly I know, but I’ve come to realise that it’s just the style of dress and they are super comfortable and easy to wear. Since we’re coming to the end of the summer season I thought I’d stay away from the lighter colours – such as pinks and whites – and opt for transitional colours like green, ready for A/W.
Size Doesn’t Always Matter
I’ve always been a BIG handbag kind of girl. I just have this bad habit of carrying everything I need, as well as the kitchen sink with me. Even on those days where I just need the two p’s (purse and phone) I always take an oversized bag with me. I don’t know why I stray away from smaller bags, but in a bid to combat this I went out and bought a few smaller bags, including this one from Topshop. I absolutely love this style of bag; the shape reminds me of Chloe bags and I love the additional stud detailing. Plus, it is far easier to carry around whether I use the handles, or the longer strap.
It’s Time To Accessorise
I use to have quite an impressive collection of costume jewellery, but now I prefer key pieces – you know, quality over quantity. I feel like I’ve built quite a lovely collection of rings, so lately I’ve been focusing on women’s necklaces. I love dainty jewellery that can be worn during the day as a soft accent, as well as on an evening to complete an outfit. I particularly love the style of this necklace from Daisy London; the ball detailing and the fact that the gem is actually a healing stone. I’m obsessed and I haven’t had it off since I got this – I can’t wait to invest in more pieces.
Make Mine Mules
Trainers, or pumps – these are what I usually pair with clothes… until now. I have to admit I think these shoes are the ugliest shoes ever, BUT OH DEAR GOD are they comfortable. I love that they give me a little height because I’m so small and they let my toes breathe, which is a must in this heat. I also feel like this style of shoe evelates my clothing, giving me an adult, but stylish appeal to my outfits.
Is there anything new that you are trying this season? This there a certain style of clothing, or accessory that you’ve always wanted to try, but stopped yourself?
