The Clarins 4-Colour Pen is not only a very practical make-up staple, but, for me, is a product that holds a lot of nostalgia. All the 90s kids out there will know what I’m talking about – this new product looks similar to the four-colour pens I had in school where I use to try and force all four colours out all at once (didn’t everyone do that?) Childhood pastimes aside, this brand new pens from Clarins are a combination of liners for both the lips and eyes.
Available in three different shades, each pen includes three retractable eye liners and one retractable lip liner. All enriched in sunflower wax complex, jojoba and black acaia to nourish and comfort the eyes and lips. I’ve been luckily enough to try shades one and two, and I have to say as a person who wears both eye and lip liners on a daily basis these have really impressed me.
On first impressions the packaging just had me at hello. Like I said before not only does it take me back to my childhood, but it’s perfect for keeping all the liners together. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve lost liners to find them scattered at the bottom of my make-up bag, or drawers later on.
I was a little worried about the choice of colours, but on closer inspection the shades actually harmonise well together. Shade one includes a deep black, blue marine and forest green eyeliner with a rosewood lip liner, while shade two includes a deep black, platinum grey and essential brown eyeliner with the iconic Clarins red lip liner.
Both the eye and lip liners are very pigmented, which is brilliant because you all know that my eyeliner needs to be super black. The liners themselves are soft and creamy in texture, which makes them really easy to blend. I found when using the liners that I could either draw a normal wing, or blend it out to create a smoky eye. Both looks were achievable from one pen, which is super handy for when you’re either on the go, or want to make the most out of your make-up bag. I think the selection of colours are a perfect way for people to add a subtle touch of colour to their everyday make-up routine too.
For me, lip liners have to be pigmented, soft on the lips and precise, and these lip liners tick all three boxes. I also think the colour selection is perfect; a gorgeous nude and a bold red – two of my favourite colours. I’ll definitely be keeping these pens in my make-up bag for everyday use.
