Lipstick lovers will understand my excitement about the L’Oreal X Balmain collaboration. It’s a collection that offers it all; lipsticks infused with the iconic Color Riche formula wrapped in luxurious packaging and finished with a designer touch.
It’s been awhile since a lipstick (or any kind of beauty) launch has had me waiting in anticipation, but there was just something about this first limited edition collection that I just couldn’t resist. When the day came around I was sat hovering over the mouse waiting for the twelve tailor-made couture lipsticks to go live, and when they did, it took just one click and I was eagerly awaiting there arrival.
Being an exclusive to Harvey Nichols and being based in Sunderland I couldn’t go and swatch them, which is something I usually do. After browsing the three styles of lipsticks – Safari, Rock and Couture – I went for Confidence and Confession from the Couture selection, as I was more drawn to these colours. Confidence is a nude shade with rose gold particles throughout, and Confession is a burnt orange colour.
You have no idea how excited I was when I was unwrapping these lipsticks. First impressions I loved the gold and black packaging, which really complemented the Balmain logo. After applying the two, I found Confession to be my favourite, which is surprising considering I’m such a nude kind of girl.
Confession is highly pigmented, however, I was a little disappointed with Confidence, as I expected Confidence to be more nude than what it is. It’s a very light nude colour that is almost metallic, as the rose gold particles really shine through the colour. It is really pretty, but I would have preferred the nude base to be slightly darker. I did find Confidence works perfectly with a nude lip liner over my lips as a base.
Both have a beautiful matte finish and because of the camelia oil in the lipstick formula, when on they feel incredibly creamy and don’t dry out on the lips. I also found them to be very long-lasting too.
At £12.99 I thought the price point was quite refreshing considering it is a collaboration with Balmain. In comparison to other drugstore lipsticks and L’Oreal’s standard Color Riche lipsticks they are more in price, but you are getting that designer touch, which I think is totally worth the money. I would have loved to have seen the bullets imprinted with the Balmain logo too, I’m assuming that would have bumped up the price, but personally I would have paid it.
Have you tried any of these lipsticks yet? If you’re like me and have more lipsticks than sense, I have loads more lipstick reviews waiting for you.
