It’s not everyday you get to sit down with a celebrity make-up artist, which is why I was thrilled to be invited to Amanda Bell’s new make-up studio. Nestled in Norton High Street, you’ll find a boutique-inspired studio that can only be described as every girl’s dream dressing room. There’s Hollywood-esque mirrors, luxurious touches and a Prosecco fridge situated in a bright, white setting that’s totally stylish and instagrammable.
For those of you that don’t know Amanda, she’s an elite make-up artist who has worked with A-list celebrities and top models, including Goldie Hawe, Sienna Miller and Emilia Fox to name but a few. With more than 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry, Amanda was also head make-up artist for the BAFTAs, as well as created the looks for London Fashion Week. Now, she’s opened the doors of her own studio where you’ll learn all the tips and tricks Amanda has been using on red carpet clientele for years.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Amanda on many magazine shoots and catwalk shows (she’ll also done my own make-up a number of times), so I knew whatever she was going to create would be amazing. Amanda’s studio exceed all my expectations – it’s bloody beautiful! Excited to get started, I rushed over to claim my seat and started spreading all my make-up out ready to go.
Her space is set up for six clients, making it a lovely intimate atmosphere where us beauty lovers can chat among ourselves, but also received one-to-one consultations with Amanda. There’s a few courses you can choose from, such as; Complexion Perfection, The Essentials, Glamour Eyes, Ageless Elegance and Red Carpet.
On my visit we were going to learn The Essentials, which was all about mastering the basic make-up essentials and learning techniques to ensure you get the best out of your complexion, eyes and lips. Focusing on creating a beautifully achievable look for a naturally enhanced appearance that can be used everyday.
Being a beauty lover and consumer, I thought I would pass this class with flying colours, but oh boy I was wrong. During this two and a half hour class, I was blown away with beauty tips I just never knew about and I’ve since used them to completely shake up my make-up routine.
Amanda started with skincare and the base, then continued right the way through until we reached the lips. Rather than just talking at us Amanda used each one of us as a model, I was the eyebrows. This was a brilliant way to actually see what we need to do and how it looks on someone. I found this method to be a really easy guide, as all I had to do was turn around, face my mirror and do the same to myself.
During this class we had to use our own make-up, and as you can imagine since there was six of us there was every beauty brand possible. From high end to drugstore, and even high street, I found that no matter the product you could still use them to achieve the natural look you wanted. Yes, some products were better than others, but it was good to learn that you can work with what you have to get what you want.
I don’t want to give everything away (because where’s the fun in that?), but I couldn’t believe all the make-up mistakes I was making and how with just a few changes in my techniques my make-up and overall complexion looked so much better. Even ask Tasha or Laura, I could not stop going on about how amazed I was!
Whether you’re a complete beauty novice wanting to learn the basics, or a beauty lover looking to perfect their routine, I would totally recommend taking one of Amanda’s courses. I promise you, you’ll learn techniques, tips and tricks that you never knew even existed.
Group masterclasses start from £75pp for two and a half hours (totally worth it if you ask me), and for more information you can head to www.amanda-bell.co.uk, or email Amanda on firstname.lastname@example.org
