I’m a avid beauty buyer. I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, a hoarder of all make-up products and I just can’t help but buy into hyped-up products. Over the years I’ve found that some products live up to the reviews they receive while others don’t. For me, here are three products that didn’t live up to the hype…
MAC Ruby Woo
When I was finally brave enough to put down my trusted nude lipstick in exchange for a bold, bright red shade, everyone (and I mean everyone) told me to try MAC’s Ruby Woo. I was so excited to try something a little out of my comfort zone, so you can imagine my disappointment when the lipstick didn’t live up to the hype.
I have to admit my expectations were set pretty high, as my favourite nude is MAC’s Honey Love and since their both a matte finish, I expected the same results. I was so wrong. Compared to Honey Love, Ruby Woo is very hard to apply because it’s so dry, in fact, it’s so drying that is crumbs on my lips. Plus, it isn’t long-lasting. It’s such a shame that the formula differs because I love the colour (and the smell). I guess Ruby Woo and I just weren’t meant to be.
Charlotte Tilbury Liquid Eyeliner
I love Charlotte Tilbury. I love the brand and its products after learning so much about them from the woman herself. I’ve tried multiple products and have had nothing negative to say about any of them, which is why I was so shocked when I tried the Liquid Eyeliner. Packaging – beautiful, tip – super precise and the product itself? I hate to say it, but really disappointing.
I have to press really hard for anything to come out and when it does, it’s really light and takes multiple strokes before building up. And even then it looks a little crispy because it’s taken so long to build up that the previous layers have dried. I hate that I don’t like this.
Benefit High Beam
Benefit was one of the first beauty brands I ever tried, and way before highlighters were the in thing there was high beam. Rumored to be the product that made Kylie Minogue’s arse look so amazing in those hot pants, I was so excited when I got my hands on it.
At the time I remember telling everyone that I Ioved it, but in reality, I just didn’t get it. Since trying other highlighters, I think it’s down to the fact that it’s a satiny pink colour, which just isn’t me, and it’s a liquid and I’m more of a powder kinda girl. It may be award-winning, but this product just doesn’t top the charts for me.
Are there any products that haven’t met your expectations? Have you tried any of the above – what did you think?
