The coffee culture in Newcastle is big and it’s only getting bigger. What can I say, Newcastle is a city that loves a cracking cup of coffee and some decent banter to go with it, which is why I think we sway more towards independent coffee shops. And new to the scene is Laneway & Co.

Nestled on the cobbled street that’s High Bridge, in Newcastle, you’ll find this newly opened coffee shop is ultra modern. The minimalistic decor of slick white tiles and gold features, gives a cool and contemporary charm about the place that’s also incredibly welcoming.

From the Laneway & Co sign displayed on the window, which boasts 24 karat gold leaf, to the range of espresso beans that fill the machine, you’ll find this place does things a little bit differently.

For those super serious coffee lovers, Laneway & Co serves coffees using beans from Allpress, Square Mile and North Star. After spending three years in Australia, which the is coffee capital of the world, owner Nick has picked only the best beans to brew in his drinks. And that’s not all.

Can you imagine drinking a hot chocolate that’s made from actual melted chocolate? Yes you heard me. Forget powders and syrups, Laneway & Co have stepped it but a notch by making its white, milk or dark hot chocolates using chocolate buttons.

I found both my cappuccino and hot chocolate to be incredibly creamy, while the shot in my coffee was very smooth and didn’t leave a bitter taste in my mouth. And no hot drink would be complete without some homemade sweet treats and savoury bites.

Staring at me from the counter were freshly made brownies, caramel slices and a range of other goodies that I managed to stray away from since I’m on a diet, however, I couldn’t resist a homemade brie and avocado sandwich. Plus, Laneway & Co have a special offer; any hot drink and a sandwich for only £5.50.

There’s such a relaxed atmosphere about this place that I could of easily stayed there all day, but after fuelling up on caffeine I headed back to Eldon Square, which is only a matter of minutes from Laneway & Co, to dabble in some much needed retail therapy.

Have you been to Laneway & Co yet? What’s your favourite type of coffee? Where do you go when you need a caffeine fix?
