Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Crayon

When it comes to lipsticks and lip glosses I’m a nude girl through and through, or so I thought. I don’t know whether it’s because there’s loads of new products on the market at the moment or I’m just getting more daring in my old age, but lately I’ve noticed that I’ve swapped my favourite nude for a classic red lip.

It may not seem like a drastic change to many of you, but for me it’s huge. I mean I was terrified to wear anything other than nude because I feared I didn’t suit it, it would smudge all over my face or I just looked like a wally walking around with bright lips.

I was first introduced to red lips with MAC’s Ruby Woo and although it’s a beautiful colour the formula of the product is quite frankly so disappointing. It just crumbles and flakes, and it’s just damn annoying.

Anyways after seeking for a similar matte lipstick and I stumbled across the Sleek Matte Me liquid lipstick in Rioja Red, and oh boy does it deliver. Now that I’ve found the perfect matte shade, I picked up the Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Crayon, £4.99 in the shade 520 to see if I could find a gorgeous glossy red to curb my bold lip craving.

I’ve never tried a lip crayon before, I’ve tried lip liners, but I’ve seen quite a number of them and I thought I would give it a go. Since it’s more of a giant pencil I was expecting it to be really harsh on my lips when applying it, however I found the colour glided onto my lips and was surprisingly soft.

I always feel glosses don’t have as much staying power as matte lipsticks. I just think because it’s glossy it slides off faster or did I just make that up? Anyways after plenty of chatting and cup of hot chocolate I was surprised to find the colour was still on my lips. In fact, it didn’t even need topping up, so the product itself is very long-lasting.

I did find it smudges a little though. At one point Tasha, had to rub it off the bottom of my chin – not sure how it got there! I did use a Revlon lip liner to make sure the edges of my lips were neat and tidy, but I found it a little hard to manage. Maybe I’m just not use to glosses or I only noticed this because it was a much bolder colour than what I’m use to.

Have you tried this pencil before? What red lipsticks do you wear? Are there any you would recommend to me?

This colour really suits your skin tone! The shade is so so similar to Mac’s Ruby Woo I think, that’s a very bright red like this :)

Thank you Gemma, yeah I think so too, that’s probably why I was so drawn to it. Love Ruby Woo but I just can’t get away with the dryness, which is a shame! xxx
